DECORATING GUIDE -
THE KITCHEN EDIT

When accessorizing  a home, don’t forget about the kitchen! It’s just as important as any other area of the home to bring warmth and depth to a space with all hard surfaces. I like to start with the island, or peninsula by adding a tray with a tall vase with branches. The tray serves double duty as a catch all for coasters, candles or other objects and when entertaining as a charcuterie board. Baskets tucked into the corners of perimeter cabinetry stylishly store kitchen towels, napkins or coffee pods. Giving your soap and hand lotion bottles a home on top of a wood riser is a great touch. I love a beautiful mat or rug runner in the kitchen for color and movement. Bringing in different textures with a variety of different materials: stone, wood, pottery and woven elements will give you a well balanced and curated space.

shelfie decor guide

One of the number one questions we get is, “How do I style shelves??” Let us walk you through a formula on how to create the perfect “shelfie”, whether it’s a floating shelf, a bookcase, etagere or a large built in. Start with your items, make sure you are collecting pieces that are to scale with the room and shelf height. When you’re shopping and you think you have enough items, get more! The more options you have the better, and I find you always need more than you think. Books are a great way to add height and an anchor to an object, I love shopping for vintage books with character. Decorative boxes and trays are also great pieces to anchor a grouping. Pick up couple sets of coordinating bowls or vases in different sizes and heights as well as some taller items like tapered candlesticks or branches. Pop in some florals or plants for color and life. Use art, a small mirror or even a plate or tray placed at the back of the shelf to create depth and dimension. Depending on the length of your shelf typically 2-3 groupings of items on each shelf looks best. Move your items around until it feels right and most importantly have fun!
